My Ideal Client

Most of my clients are working through significant life transitions, including: perinatal mental health concerns, grief and loss, stress, anxiety, depression, or family relational conflict. I specialize in perinatal mental health, offering support to parents and families as they navigate the transition to parenting, their fertility journey, pregnancy, losses, birth, the postpartum period, and beyond.

My Approach to Helping

Deciding to enter therapy can be frightening and uncomfortable. I will work to help you feel at ease through this process. Through my calm presence, strong support, and our therapeutic relationship, I can help you move through this time. You can find new connection and healing to help move you towards the changes you wish to see. I offer a nonjudgmental space where we can explore together sources of your pain or distress, while developing new ways of interacting with yourself and others. I offer empathy, experience, and expertise to guide you through this process. Please visit my website at www.parkershamescounseling.com for more details on my practice and approach. Contact me to set up a free initial phone consultation. You do not have to face this alone. I can help!

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I received my Bachelor's in Sociology from Pitzer College, in Claremont, CA in 2004. I worked for many years as a public health researcher and educator before returning to school to pursue a degree in counseling. I received my Master's of Science degree in Counselor Education, Marriage, Couples and Family Therapy from Portland State University in 2014. I opened my private practice in 2015. I currently hold two licenses in the State of Oregon, as both a Licensed Professional Counselor (License # C5466) and a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (License # T2493). I was born and raised in southern Oregon. I have lived in Portland for 20 years. When I am not working, I enjoy travel, cooking, hiking, creating art, and exploring beautiful places in the Pacific Northwest with my family. I believe that therapy is a powerful tool for change, and it is my privilege to provide a space for you to explore the possibility of healing for you.
