My Approach to Helping

As human beings, I strongly believe that we have an innate drive towards health, wholeness and organicity. In my work with clients, I draw on strategies that assist people in exploring ways that they can move towards a more holistic and integrated sense of self, utilizing mindfulness based approaches, mind-body therapy applications, attachment work, and self-compassion practices. I will assist you in identifying and studying core beliefs that keep you feeling stuck in life and create barriers to personal growth. I work hard to create a safe, nonjudgmental space for individuals to study and explore all of the various facets of themselves with the goal of self-acceptance, integration and a greater sense of connection with the world. Please feel free to contact me with any questions that you have, or to schedule a free initial consultation. I think that therapist/client fit is one of the most important ingredients to having a successful therapy experience.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Oregon and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of Hawaii. I have a strong passion for working with survivors of abuse and trauma. I have completed the META/Hakomi training program here in Portland Oregon and am also certified in the use of CIMBS (Complex Integration of Multiple Brain Systems). I am trained in the use of EMDR by the EMDR Institute.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Anxiety External link

Anxiety is a very common human experience. I believe that anxiety is often a message from our body that something needs to change, or be approached in a different way. My goal is to create a safe, nonjudgmental space for clients to explore their feelings of anxiety, while learning practical tools to cope with the symptoms.

  • Depression External link

Depression is one of the most common mental health concerns in the United States. Sadness and grief are normal human emotions. I provide a safe, caring space for you to explore feelings of sadness or grief, whether they are new or something you have been experiencing for a long time. Through the use of various modalities, I can assist you in exploring ways to alleviate feelings of depression.

  • PTSD External link

Working with trauma survivors is a passion of mine. It has been said that PTSD is a normal response to an abnormal situation. Whether you have experienced a one time trauma, or have a history of multiple traumas (also knows as complex trauma), I will work with you to find the best way to approach your unique experience with compassion and with an emphasis on safety and trust.

  • Domestic Abuse External link

I worked at the Gateway Center for Domestic Violence as a therapist for three years. This experience allowed me to develop the unique ability to be sensitive to the unique needs of survivors of intimate partner violence, something that I am very passionate about. I enjoy helping survivors find their inner strength, and to become empowered to make new choices.
