My goal is to help you regain purpose, and enjoy life and your relationships. Though I use a lot of research-based treatment, I don't believe everyone fits in a box. To the best of my ability, I strive to collaborate with people to create a plan that fits their personality, their relationship, or their family. I encourage people to practice new skills regularly so they become new, healthy habits and I will challenge you to think creatively about your situation and abilities.

My background has given me a strong root in social justice, art, music, and research-based methods for therapy. These days I incorporate that foundation into creating an intuitive but solution-focused strategy to help people feel better, have better relationships, or make a change they've dreamed about. My training in Gottman methods has given me effective tools for helping couples develop deeper intimacy, better conflict management, and stronger relationships. I specialize in working with teenagers, and collaborating with parents to help them reach mental health and continue on into healthy independence. Additionally, I work within the GLBTQ and poly communities and strive to maintain a safe space for these clients to obtain counseling. I practice with my dog Phoenix, a German Shepard/Rottweiler mix who is talkitive and loves pets.

Techniques I Use

  • Gottman Method External link

When working with couples, I use Gottman Method because it has shown in over a decade of research to be effective. The Gottman approach provides simple ways to effectively manage conflict, deepen intimacy, improve friendship, and help heal relationship injuries even when there is significant conflict in a relationship.

  • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) External link

I work with people to help them understand the connection between their thoughts, their feelings, and their actions so that they can notice what they are doing, and positive changes in their lives. This type of therapy is really useful for people with anxiety, depression, and trauma. Additionally, I often teach these skills to parents when their children have challenging behaviors.

  • Art Therapy External link

In my practice, the goal of art therapy is to use art and creativity to resolve emotional conflicts, self-sooth, reduce anxiety and depression, and help gain insight into emotions, thoughts, and actions. With families and couples, art therapy has been useful for developing better communication and teamwork skills.

Issues I Treat

  • Personal Growth External link

I often work with adults and couples who need a 'tune up', want to understand themselves better, or who are looking to change their life completely. Whether it's getting back on track or making a major life change, my goal-driven and creative background allows me to assist people to learn the skills they need to develop and maintain their new path.

  • LGBTQ Issues External link

I understand the dynamics and challenges of being a part of this community and offer a GLBTQ friendly environment for counseling. Additionally, I have helped many teenagers and adults undergoing gender transitions (including non-binary) and have helped many families learn how to support and advocate for their loved one while they undertake their exciting journey.

  • Relationship / Marriage Issues External link

I am trained in Gottman therapy (level 2) and use this as my primary therapy with couples and non-monogamous relationships. This method has over a decade of research understanding what makes long-term relationships work. I find this to be a highly effective therapy for building better communication, deepening intimacy, and learning how to resolve conflicts.
