My Ideal Client

As a masters student intern, I am open and excited to work with anyone who walks through my door. I have an interest in working with children and adolescents (and am currently pursuing my Play Therapy certification), as well as adults who struggle with anxiety, depression, and/or self-esteem issues. I am also working on my Trauma-Informed Counseling certification and have an interest in supporting people through processing their own trauma.

My Background and Approach

I am currently a graduate student at George Fox University, pursuing my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. While I am new to working in mental health, I have decades of experience working with the public and have continued to see the need for more services in my community. I am in the process of being trained in Restoration Therapy and also have a strong interest in the approaches of Attachment, Feminist, and Narrative Therapies.

Why I Became a Therapist

I became a therapist because I have struggled with my own mental health over the years and therapy has been an irreplaceable resource to find the healthiest version of myself. I have also worked with the public for the last 20 years and have seen the growing need for support, predominantly with our veteran and houseless populations. I have always been driven to be of service to the people around me and always strive to be actively participating in organizations that promote DE&I initiatives.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Feminist External link

While I am currently a first year student in my program, these are the two approaches that I have studied most. As I graduated with a minor in Gender Studies, the social justice approach of Feminist Theory has been integral in my personal life as well as in validating those who suffer in oppressive systems.

  • Gestalt External link

I have done research and practiced Gestalt Theory in a few of my classes and resonated greatly with the concept of focusing on the "here and now" in working with people who may have a difficult time processing their past.
