My Background and Approach

Derek has a Masters in Social Work from the University of Washington as well as a Bachelors in Sociology and Criminology from Cal State Northridge. After practicing and helping clients for nearly a decade, Derek founded Mindful Therapy Group with his wife, Jessica Crain. Derek thinks big picture, always pushing himself and his staff to think more critically, and throws around the phrase “self-compassion,” every chance he gets. Derek is an auditory learner and works in words. He hears the details and will use them to pivot and teach anyone who will listen how to be a better communicator.
