My Ideal Client

If you're working to navigate the intricacies of anxiety, depression, trauma, major life changes, and/or identity formation/acceptance, I will work to provide the level and style of support that best fits your needs, strengths, and values. Through our work together, we can find ways to manage the most difficult parts of life while also recognizing and embracing the beautiful parts of it to live the most meaningful and balanced life as possible.

My Approach to Helping

I have a fairly integrative and client-centered approach, meaning that I want to provide the most individualized care to individuals with my expertise in a wide range of approaches that can fluctuate between more structured and directive to more unstructured and free-flowing based on individual styles and needs. I have experience using solution-focused therapy, CBT, ACT, DBT skills, mindfulness, person-centered, CPT, and EMDR.

My Values as a Therapist

As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, human rights and freedoms are of the utmost importance to me, both for the communities I am a part of, and the ones that I am not. Being an advocate for all marginalized communities and individuals is a part of my personal and professional life, whether they are marginalized for their religion/spirituality, race, ethnicity, language, gender identity, sexual orientation, biological sex, social class, age, and/or abilities. Not only is human life sacred to me, but also animal and plant life as well, which I continue to strive to protect and care for through my previous experiences volunteering at animal shelters and working at conversation parks.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) External link

I have been using ACT with clients for several years with presenting problems such as depression, anxiety, trauma, Autism, ADHD, life changes and stressors, LGBTQ+ difficulties, etc., and have been trained by consultation with supervisors and received some continuing education courses. I can support clients navigating stressors through defusing from dysfunctional thoughts and willingness/acceptance of emotions in order to focus on ways to live a value-driven life.

  • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) External link

I have provided CBT treatments for individuals for years as my first-learned orientation, and have worked with clients to challenge and restructure unhelpful beliefs, and find ways to engage in behaviors to increase or manage moods for people presenting with difficulties related to depression, anxiety, trauma, bipolar disorder, ADHD, Autism, etc. My training in CBT has been focused primarily on consultation with supervisors and some continuing education courses.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) External link

I have previously taken part in skill-based DBT interventions (mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness) both in a group setting and on a one-on-one basis individuals to manage presenting concerns regarding anxiety, depression, trauma, interpersonal difficulties, and Borderline Personality Disorder. My training in DBT has been focused both on consultation with supervisors and various continuing education courses.

  • Solution Focused Brief Therapy External link

I have several years of experience (primarily in community mental health) in working with a wide arrange of presenting concerns using solution-focused treatment due to so many environmental factors (i.e. housing, finances, employment, legal, political climate, etc.) severely impacting mental health and helping clients to find solutions or resources to navigate these stressors.

  • EMDR External link

I have recently been through training for EMDR to manage symptoms of trauma and PTSD and am working on my certification for EMDR, primarily with adults but am open and have consultation to work with adolescents using EMDR as well.
