My Ideal Client

Are you, your partner(s), or your family trying to break intergenerational curses to feel more connected to yourself and each other? Do you find yourselves misunderstanding each other and feeling confused about why this keeps happening? Are y'all having difficulties struggling to adjust to an acute or chronic illness and how it impacts your relationship(s)? I work with you and your loved ones to help each of you feel more connected and empowered as you navigate various transitions.

My Approach to Helping

I believe that our past shapes who we become but does not fully define who we are or who we will be. The various messaging and stories that are told about ourselves, our bodies, and our relationships are not stable, they can always be shifted with care and curiosity. To aid in our work together, I utilize Intergenerational Family Therapy, Socio-Emotional Relational Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and EMDR to best fit you, your relationship, and your family's needs as each of you navigate the world.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that getting to work alongside you in your journey allows both of us to explore how you've gotten to this point and help you decide who you want to become. I believe that people contain multitudes, and I allow all aspects of you to come into our work together to foster change and growth. As a fat, biracial, nonbinary clinician, I bring these and other aspects of my identity into my life in and outside of the therapy room through helping you navigate and advocate for yourself in doctor's offices, schools, and other systems.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Family Systems External link

I utilize Family Systems theory to understand how you relate to others in your larger world. I explore how ways of connecting in your family growing up have shaped how you engage with yourself and your relationships now to ultimately empower you in doing differently!

  • EMDR External link

I utilize EMDR to help uproot negative beliefs about yourself and plant new seeds to help you change the impacts of trauma. With this approach, you do not have to go into re-explaining your trauma; I follow your lead in how much or how little you want to disclose during the trauma re-processing. The goal is to ultimately help bring you back to the present moment rather than being pulled towards the past or future.

  • Emotionally Focused External link

I utilize Emotionally Focused therapy to help you navigate your relational bond between you and your close others. Attachment is one part of your experience, and I take it into consideration when working alongside you to help shape your current and future interactions.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • LGBTQ Issues External link

Queerness is a beautiful thing that can be hard to define with language. For people that identify as LGBTQ+, I work to provide culturally informed care to understand how you connect to your sense of gender, romantic and sexual orientations and how these shape your interactions with the larger world.

  • Chronic Pain or Illness External link

It can be difficult to navigate new diagnoses of chronic pain, diabetes, or other chronic illnesses. With my specialized training in Medical Family Therapy, I can help you and your loved ones navigate life with the chronic illness or pain moving forward. I also will help you and your loved ones navigate the healthcare system to simultaneously advocate for yourself and your medical needs while also staying connected to each other and your larger care team.
