My Approach to Helping

Life circumstances can feel overwhelming and bigger than us. As parents and adults we can feel stuck and unable to access our wiser selves to accomplish what we want for our children, ourselves and in relationship to others. As teens, we can get bogged down with expectations and feel like we are sinking. Navigating with-in our comfort zone can sometimes hinder our emotional and relational growth. Your growing awareness of these conditions that hold you back will inform our work together. I can assist you accessing your authentic self which may invite you to challenge old habitual patterns and ways of thinking. Our work together may also give you the insight and tools to skillfully navigate the circumstances in your life that you want to improve. Your relationship to yourself and others may deepen and you may start to create a positive life narrative. My goal is to co-create a space with you that is nurturing and informative so you can begin your exploration with curiosity and ease.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) graduating with an MSW from Portland State University in 2012. I am seasoned therapist with over a decade of experience providing mental health services to children, adolescents, adults and families in urban and rural outpatient mental health clinics, community and residential settings. I am particularly drawn to working with adults and families impacted by depression, anxiety, grief, loss, trauma related conditions and everyday “circumstances” that get in our way. I am passionate about empowering clients to heal from historical and current conditions that hold them from the life they want. I utilize a variety of trauma informed attachment / narrative based interventions. I draw from a personal mindfulness practice with a wealth of lived and professional experience that deeply informs my relational approach to understanding and working with my client’s challenges. IF I DO NOT RETURN YOUR CALL WITH IN 3 DAYS, MY PRACTICE IS FULL.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Solution Focused Brief Therapy External link

There is no better time than now to focus on a solution to your problem so that you can feel better sooner than later. I whole heartedly believe that you already have the innate capacity to solve your problems right now. Our work together will uncover what you already know so that you can move in the direction you want to go in your life. Lets get started it won’t take long.

  • Narrative  External link

I have completed specialized training and practice in narrative based interventions. I empower my clients to explore their personal narrative, dis-empowering old story lines that no longer serve them ultimately encouraging them to craft a new narrative that embodies who they truly are. You are the navigator of your life and together will will identify a sustainable path to well being.

  • Mindfulness-based External link

Mindfulness based interventions invite us to examine what’s really happening in the moment that supports or hinders our well being. Mindfulness encourages working with unskillful habits and thoughts that keep us stuck and can reduce unnecessary suffering. I have embraced a mindfulness practice in my personal life for over 20 years and my practice informs my work with clients.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Family Conflict External link

It can be hard to live together under the same roof much less get along. I provide family therapy that can help members find their voice to advocate for their needs, understand one another, reduce conflict and maybe even help one another like each other again. Family therapy can help you discover the uniqueness of each family member so living together feels natural again.

  • Suicidal Ideation External link

I know that your thoughts of self harm are temporary. Your thoughts are not all of who you are, in fact they are one small part. Let’s work together to understand the pain that creates these thoughts and then lets create a new understanding about yourself that includes a positve narrative that supports who you really are. We are never our thoughts. Ever!

  • Body Image Issues External link

We are not our thoughts and we don't have to believe them. Body image struggles are likely attached to unskillful and habitual thinking. We can work together to dis-empower the habitual thoughts that hold you hostage. We can craft accurate thoughts that support your self esteem. Lets work collaboratively to improve your relationship to your body, mind and emotions.

  • PTSD External link

Trauma happens. It hurts. I can assist you in identifying historical or current circumstances that have caused you pain so that you might begin the process of dis-empowering the story lines that keep you stuck. From there, I can assist you in identifying a new narrative that is affirming and that supports your well being.

  • Depression External link

I provide individual therapy for teens and adults who are living with depression and other mood challenges. I understand that 'heavy' feeling that is all consuming and feels bigger than us. Let’s work collaboratively to identify the barriers and habitual patterns that keep you stuck and then develop a sustainable path forward incorporating your healing and improved well being.
