My Ideal Client

I work well with people who long for a greater understanding of who they are and where they come from. I understand that my clients’ family history, trauma history, racial identity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability status, religion, class, and ethnic background inform their world—both internal and external. I make space in therapy to explore my clients’ experiences of who they are in the world, particularly when their identities are marginalized or they've been through trauma

My Approach to Helping

My approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, and grounded in the therapeutic relationship. I employ a psychodynamically-informed eclectic approach. I incorporate elements of relational psychodynamic therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology, and mindfulness. I am an IFS trained therapist, having completed IFS level one training through the IFS Institute. I’m happy to talk with potential clients about any of these approaches—I usually employ a mix of approaches, depending on the need of each client and how they are interested in working together. Beyond theoretical orientation, the most consistent predictor of a helpful course of therapy is the relationship between therapist and client. I pay particular attention to this relationship. I encourage clients to get to know me over the course of a few sessions, to decide whether I am a good fit for you as a therapist.

My Values as a Therapist

The work of being a therapist can be hard to quantify, but I know that I have been effective when the people I work with have more satisfying relationships, are no longer limited by past trauma, move away from self-destructive patterns, and connect to purpose and meaning. I aspire to help my clients feel empowered to work through painful experiences to become stronger and more fulfilled.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Compassion Fatigue External link

I wrote my masters thesis on compassion fatigue and how spiritual practice can be protective so I have a particular interest in this topic.

  • Abuse External link

Through clinical experience and professional training (EMDR, IFS), I have an understanding of the impact of abuse, in terms of a person's development as well as every day relationships. I use a relational lens to work with this, as well as tools from IFS, DBT, and EMDR.
