My Ideal Client

My ideal client is someone who has experienced trauma, be it one event or layers of trauma occurring since childhood. They have been able to live a meaningful life to the best of their ability, but they might feel held back by feelings of control, hypervigilance, detachment, etc. stemming from the traumatic event(s). Trauma often shows up in our mood, relationships, and physical health so there may be multiple areas that are unsatisfying. My ideal client is ready to work hard to address this!

My Background and Approach

My work experience varies from community mental health, health care, and working at a wellness clinic. As a result, my approach to therapy is holistic, focusing on the mind-body connection. I specialize in somatic therapy, which focuses more on our body compared to traditional talk therapy. Body-based therapy is effective because our mind is in constant communication with our body and therefore trauma and emotions often get stored and can get stuck in our bodies. As a yoga teacher, I can guide clients in therapeutic movement to help un-block this trauma and emotion. I am also certified in EMDR, which stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, which is one of the leading therapies for trauma. When applied properly, EMDR can help make scary memories feel distant, as if a normal long-term memory, and no longer activating for the body.

Why I Became a Therapist

I became a therapist because I personally benefitted from therapy and wanted to share with others the expansion this can bring to one's life. I have a history of PTSD and did EMDR therapy for two years. This was transformative for me. At the same time that I was in therapy I was also working on my certification to be a Registered Yoga Teacher. I learned first-hand how helpful pairing trauma reprocessing with body movement can be. I would not ask my clients to try anything I have not done myself so I can guide you through the process as both a professional and as a person with lived experience.
