My Ideal Client

Do you want to feel less anxiety? Are you seeking tools to reduce stress? Are you burnt out from providing care for others? I work with clients who have experienced recent or complicated loss, folks in the LGBTQ+ community, family situations in crises relating to older adult and end-of-life concerns, and health care workers experiencing burnout and compassion fatigue.

My Background and Approach

I have been providing counseling, therapeutic support and energy healing to clients and communities for the last 30 years. I worked as a medical social worker with Care Partners Hospice & Palliative Care. I facilitated the grief and loss groups for our bereavement program and was the project manager for the LGBTQ+ Grief & Loss program. I have worked in community-based projects in South India, Hawai’i and the mainland for over two decades. I use a holistic perspective which includes mindful-based practices, attachment theory and narrative therapy. Together we use mindful based practices including breathwork and somatic exercises to build emotional resilience and regulate your nervous system. As this takes effect, we then address deeper rooted emotional issues by reframing your perspective and cultivating healed version of yourself. I often use creative and innovative methods such as storytelling, movement and journaling to open up different ways to understand ourselves better.

Why I Became a Therapist

As a child I faced health issues and attempted to navigate a complex world with a highly sensitive nature. Since then, I have sought out teachers, paths and supports along the way. I have spent the last 30 years studying mindfulness, meditation, Yoga, Reiki as well as clinical evidence based methods including narrative therapy, CBT & solution based therapy. Working in hospice with the dying has taught me invaluable lessons of vulnerability, tenderness and mindfulness based care. My wish to work with anxiety, trauma, grief/loss and end-of-life work was inspired by my own experiences of anxiety and loss and finding support and care on the journey. As a queer person, I have a special affinity for working with folx in the LGTBQ+ community. I am on a community and collective oriented path that values continuous listening, learning, collaborating and connecting. I am the treasurer for the PNW Council of Water Protectors, as an ally to our native community.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Compassion Fatigue External link

As a healthcare worker and volunteer for the past decade I distinctly understand the challenges of burnout, compassion fatigue and secondary grief and loss. I use mindfulness-based practices and support for the nervous system. I provide short-term and long-term strategies to prevent continuing burnout. Using my education and knowledge about grief and loss I offer somatic and therapeutic tools to not only work through but also support the needed work of healthcare work that is often overlooked.

  • Loss or Grief External link

I have volunteered, interned and worked as a hospice medical social worker for the last 8 years, recently 4 years with Care Partners Hospice & Palliative Care. I facilitated the grief and loss groups and was the project manager for the LGBTQ+ Bereavement Program. Prior to that I have studied grief and loss for decades working with clients to support their grief journey including complex, stigmatized and disenfranchised grief that may stem from traumatic and compounded losses.

  • Anxiety External link

I have been studying and implementing mindfulness-based practices with my clients for the last 30 years. As both a clinically trained therapist and trained Yoga teacher and Reiki Master I am able to provide tools and modalities to help support rebalancing the nervous system, cultivating mindfulness and reducing anxiety. I have cultivated these pracitices in my hospice work, supporting families and patients at the end-of-life, one of the most anxiety ridden times in one's life experience.

  • Spirituality External link

My work with spiritual, meditation and animist arts has been cultivated with recognized teachers and lineages for over three decades. Spirituality can be a loaded topic, especially for LGBTQ+ community and I am sensitive to the experience of religious trauma. I use a holistic approach and may include my training in Yoga, Buddhism, mindfulness practices, meditation, dreamwork, archetype to provide clients with tools to create a meaningful perspective that is interdependent with their life.
