My Approach to Helping

My approach is looking at the environment we live in, and the ways in which systems – whether judicial, religious, or social – play a part in perpetuating oppression. I not only collaborate with you to better understand those factors, I help prepare you to transition back into your environment in way that makes you better equipped to face the challenges that exist there. My counseling sessions aren’t about feeling weak, stigmatizing, or labeling. They’re about gaining strength of understanding, and building new methods to cope and overcome.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I have a graduate certificate in addiction and my masters in marriage and family track. Addiction touches all systems, people, ages, ethnicity, gender, and understanding the insidious effects makes me a highly effective therapist. I have many different advance training that only strengthens the many lenses that I work from in order to provide the highest possible level of care. I have been exposed to many different types of human conditions that only add richness to my counseling work.

Techniques I Use

  • Attachment Theory External link

Having training in attachment theory serves as a solid foundation for understanding client’s development of maladaptive coping strategies and how this relates to the client’s emotional difficulties. Using this therapy, I can help clients increase self-compassion and kindness because clients who have attachment disorders/wounds often develop a negative self-view.

  • Addiction Therapy External link

I have extensive training and experience working with individuals dealing with addiction.

  • Emotionally Focused External link

As I have grown into a professional license counselor I have come to realize the benefits of deep work to heal trauma and various other human concerns. It helps individuals accept, regulate, express, and bring awareness of the complexity of human emotions. Understanding emotions help guides us to our needs or wants.

Issues I Treat

  • Coronavirus/COVID-19 External link

Managing anxiety when you may have underlying issues thus at a higher risk. Managing social isolation.

  • Abuse External link

Victims often feel they are being degraded and often don’t feel their abusers see their innate worth as a human being. The abuse often centers around control and they will use many harmful techniques to maintain and/or gain control over their victims. I have training and experience working with all forms of abuse and together we can create a safe space for you and break the cycle of violence.

  • Relationship / Marriage Issues External link

Conflicts can arise at any stage in a relationship. Sometimes these conflicts grow in complexity despite our best efforts to resolve them on our own. Whether you’re a new couple, a married couple, or a couple facing separation, I can work with you to navigate and resolve the challenges in your relationship.

  • Loss or Grief External link

Death and bereavement are universally inescapable events that we all have to face; no matter how much we resist. Individuals may experience suicidal thoughts, numbness, or the disconnection , which interferes with daily activities. What we do with that indentation gives us strength or hinders us from living.  Some clients need a higher level of support and this is where I can come.

  • Anxiety External link

Healthy anxiety keeps us alert, in tune with our surroundings, and does not interfere with our lives.  Unhealthy anxiety is present even if there is no perceived threat.  It disrupts your life, and creates isolation. I firmly believe that you are unique and deserve a plan that is realistic and will result in the highest level of recovery.
