My Ideal Client

Clients interested in having a space to engage collaboratively, gain greater understanding through curiosity and exploration, and who are ultimately invested in working to address the root causes of their struggles. I have found that developing an awareness and insight into your thoughts and decision making is key to attaining and sustaining greater fulfillment and life satisfaction.

My Approach to Helping

What sets me apart from many other providers is the guiding principle that effective therapy is much more art than science. Research has consistently shown that the most influential common factor in effective therapy is a comfortable working relationship with your therapist (as opposed to a specialized treatment protocol or even years of experience). As such, I treat the quality and trust within our therapeutic relationship as the number one priority. I utilize a primarily psychodynamic approach, which looks past the surface level of issues and aims to provide understanding and resolution for long-term, sustainable change. Working in this way helps to connect our past experiences and relationships with the thoughts and decisions we make in the present, building a greater sense of control and stability. I also incorporate several other theoretical models and interventions in order to adapt treatment to best serve you as the client.

More About the People I Treat

Beyond information gathering and the diagnostic process, my number one priority from the very first session is to build the foundations of a trusting and effective working relationship with you, as my client. I am interested in getting to know the full 'you', because you are much more than what brings you into therapy and I recognize that the sum total of your lived experience is what makes you 'you'. A greater awareness of opportunities to make different choices and an increased capacity to slow down and act on those things within our control (as well as better tolerating those things outside our control) can be transformative. Therapy is a place where you can be completely open and honest without fear of judgment, ultimately providing you the capacity to live authentically. Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Psychodynamic  External link

This approach looks past the surface of any issue in order to connect previous experiences and relationships with the thoughts, feelings, and decisions we make in the present. The goal is to determine the root causes of your struggles. Greater understanding, an awareness of the opportunities to make different choices, and an increased capacity to slow down and act on those things within your control can bring much more sustainable change.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Anxiety External link

Developing and refining your coping skills to better manage your worry is important but therapy is also a space to help you discover the underlying triggers which interfere with your ability to respond and think in healthier ways. Exploring and identifying the origins of your anxiety helps to ensure that these underlying issues can be addressed so problems don’t resurface in different ways or in different areas of your life. I'm committed to providing you more than just a Band-Aid.

  • Loss or Grief External link

Grief is often connected with death, and while death can be one of the most difficult issues to cope with, grief can also be representative of the loss of a relationship, an opportunity, a lifestyle, a belief, or any meaningful change to your life. It can be critical to process all these feelings and work towards acceptance of new realities in order to successfully move forward in one's life. As hard as it may be to acknowledge the impact of the losses in our lives it can bring true healing.

  • Historical Trauma External link

I utilize training in trauma focused therapy to first ensure you have effective coping skills to manage your symptoms, followed by collaboratively processing your traumatic experiences through storytelling/art, and lastly, I work with you to address and challenge distorted thinking (such as self-blame) you may be experiencing. This gives you back a sense of control over your experience, ensures you are being fair to yourself, and brings some order to the chaos of your traumatic memories.

  • Depression External link

The weight of depression is one of the most challenging things to cope with and overcome. Once you are able to grasp what is at the root of these feelings you can gain the perspective necessary to reinterpret your reality and recognize ways to shift your thinking. You can discover what your unmet needs are and identify opportunities to make different choices with these truths in mind. Delving into these issues is the starting point to recovering from them and regaining control in your life.

  • Personal Growth External link

Therapy does not always have to be about addressing specific problems in your life. Therapy can be a way to better tap into your potential as an artist, athlete, actor, businessperson, or simply as an individual. Delve into your desires and your dreams and obtain a greater understanding of the 'why' in order to move your life out of autopilot.
