My Ideal Client

Are you tired of feeling stuck in the never ending cycle between "Give Up" and "Try Harder"? Do you struggle with extending kindness and compassion towards yourself and others? I understand how nearly impossible it can feel to love yourself (and others!) when the burdens of shame, regret, sorrow, loneliness, and trauma weigh you down. In my work, I seek to validate your experiences, join you in the hard work of healing, and encourage you to see your strengths and resilience as a survivor.

What I Specialize In

My work primarily consists of addressing areas of shame, grief and loss, trauma, PTSD and CPTSD, family of origin, religious and spiritual identity, and anxiety and depression. I work from a strengths based, attachment lens drawing heavily from IFS. I use creative, mind-body engaging methods to draw out emotions, thoughts, and memories that sometimes cannot be expressed with words. I seek to provide an atmosphere that is warm and compassionate. I use attachment based theories around relationships to help you understand how the past shaped you and to determine the person you wish to be. I rely on my client's own preferences, strengths, and interests to tailor their counseling experience to them in a way that fits with their worldview, faith, and knowledge.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

As a Christian woman, I have seen how valuable and beneficial it is to engage in mental health through the lens of my faith and I seek to offer that opportunity to the people I work with. I recognize that not everyone will hold the same beliefs as I do and I believe this creates a greater opportunity for allowing authentic, nonjudgmental conversations to take place as we connect on the foundational level that we are humans doing the best we can in challenging circumstances. I use my professional experience as a caregiver to inform my work and welcome the opportunity to work with clients who likewise have been or are currently in a helper position, including medical personnel, school staff and administration, first responders, homeschool families, and pastoral care. Furthermore, my experience as a Third Culture Kid (TCK) has provided me with respect and compassion for those who may be conflicted regarding their identity, purpose, and sense of belonging within two or more cultures.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) External link

I mainly draw from Strengths Based counseling theories, with a strong focus on family of origin and attachment based patterns. I work under the larger umbrella of IFS to navigate many major mental health concerns, such as trauma and PTSD, shame, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, loneliness, and identity. I also incorporate faith related components within Christian counseling as is applicable to my client.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Historical Trauma External link

Having acquired knowledge of trauma, its impact, and practical care interventions through formal training, I have great compassion for individuals bearing the weight of the accompanying shame, isolation, and pain that follows such experiences. You are not alone and you are not beyond repair. You may feel broken now, yet I believe we can work towards healing together!

  • Loss or Grief External link

Grief and Loss comes in many shapes and forms - sometimes it's the loss of a loved one that came too soon or even after many years of suffering; at other times it's the loss of identity, hope, relationship(s), peace, security, finances, a job, or a passion/dream. Your walk with grief and loss matters and is worthy of exploring. I believe it is during such times of sorrow, confusion, and insecurity that it is even more essential to seek out support.
