My Approach to Helping

As a counselor I assist individuals, couples, and families in their search for personal and relational integration. The client- counselor relationship is designed to facilitate emotional, cognitive, and spiritual growth through open dialogue, and self exploration.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I have a Master of Science degree in Counseling from Portland State University, and a Master of Arts in Teaching from University of Portland. I also am a credentialed yoga and breath work instructor with thirty three years of experience. I have worked as a professional with children and families in various educational, community, and agency settings for over thirty years.

    I have specific training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy from Portland State Universities Graduate School of Counseling. My experience includes the use of Cognitive Behavioral techniques with clients across various presenting issues.

  • Solution Focused Brief Therapy External link

    I both trained and practiced Brief Therapy at Portland State Universities Graduate School of Counseling. Brief therapy is sometimes the most effective tool for change in the therapy setting. I often use brief therapy within the larger counseling relationship to help clients see identified problems as opportunities.

  • Emotionally Focused External link

    I studied and practiced emotionally focused therapy at Portland State University. In my experience I find this approach to be an effective way for a client to change and grow through an authentic relationship with their therapist.

    Since 2013 it has given me great joy to work closely with teens and adults on the Autism Spectrum. I have trained and researched specifically to provide personal, relational, and vocational support for people identified with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
