My style is warm and collaborative. As an existential-humanistic counselor, I believe that exploring meaning and authentic self-expression contribute to fulfillment and a sense of well-being. My intention is to create a space where clients can receive support and mindfully address whatever aspects of their life may need attention and healing.

I hold a Masters Degree in Counseling from Seattle University . During graduate school, I facilitated groups and provided individual patient support while working at an inpatient psychiatric hospital. After finishing graduate school, I worked at an intensive outpatient program for people experiencing addiction and mental illness. I am also a yoga instructor and one of my research interests in graduate school was looking at the therapeutic effects of yoga on mental health. I believe that yoga can be an effective tool to support people in connecting with and grounding in their bodies. I opened my private practice here in Portland in 2013 and have since developed an interest in treating trauma. In February, 2015 I completed the EMDR Basic training and have been incorporating EMDR into my practice since then.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • EMDR External link

EMDR is a powerful therapy used to help people heal from traumatic experiences. It facilitates a process that allows people to adaptively process traumatic experiences in a way that promotes deep and lasting positive change. I am a Certified EMDR Therapist.

  • Existential External link

What is the point of existence? Why are we all here?

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Coronavirus/COVID-19 External link

I am currently seeing clients over a secure telehealth platform. As a certified EMDR threpist I have experience treating people who have experienced trauma. Over the telehealth platform, I can help with processing this current pandemic experience and help develop coping skills to manage the related stress.

  • PTSD External link

I treat various forms of trauma in my practice and am a certified EMDR therapist.

  • Anxiety External link

In treating anxiety, I conceptualize it on two levels. The first level is how to address the discomfort of acute anxiety in the moment. So for example, when anxiety gets bad what are things I can do in the moment to cope with it. The second level involves exploring the cause. Getting down to the core of what is driving the anxiety can help to alleviate it on a deeper level.
