My Ideal Client

Some of the issues and topics I can help with include: depression, anxiety, complex trauma and PTSD, chronic illness/chronic pain, grief, life transitions, relationships, sexuality, neurodivergence, family conflict, parenting, creative blocks, and more.

My Approach to Helping

My clinical approach is always client-centered, meaning we work together to discover what will be most helpful for you, drawing on a variety of evidence-based modalities. Consent and feedback are key! To give a brief overview, I often use IFS, EMDR, DBT, ACT and Somatic approaches in my practice, depending on your needs and goals. In EMDR, we process trauma and shift deep-set negative beliefs about the self and the world. IFS helps us understand our multiple conflicting desires and priorities and release self-defeating behaviors. DBT teaches how to identify, tolerate, and manage overwhelming emotions, while Somatic therapy focuses on calming the nervous system and helping the body relax and feel safe. ACT is all about recognizing and accepting the way our mental patterns trip us up. Rather than fighting with our minds, we shift the focus to cultivating mindfulness and acting in alignment with our values. I also facilitate intention-setting and integration for psychedelics.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

My values are rooted in justice and liberation: decolonization, fat liberation, racial justice, community care, and queer joy are central to my worldview. Learning to flow between states of grief, despair, uncertainty, ease, curiosity, desire, and connection has been my life's work. My therapy practice emerged out of nearly a decade's work as a documentary filmmaker and consulting astrologer. I discovered that my superpower is holding a safe container for people to make sense of their life, work through unprocessed trauma, and become their own best advocate and ally. Since then I've trained and worked as a DV/SA survivor advocate, hospital social worker, psychedelic therapist, and trauma specialist.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) External link

ACT is all about recognizing and accepting the way our mental patterns trip us up. Rather than fighting with our minds, we shift the focus to cultivating mindfulness and acting in alignment with our values. This approach is particularly helpful for depression, navigating neurodivergence in an ableist world, and managing chronic illness and chronic pain.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • LGBTQ Issues External link

My work focuses on supporting individuals in queer relationships; those navigating gender transition (medical and/or social) and gender identity exploration; issues pertaining to sexual identity exploration, questioning, and coming out; family-of-origin dynamics; abuse or trauma pertaining to gender or sexuality; processing and navigating transphobia and homophobia in the world and in family-of-origin.

  • Relationship / Marriage Issues External link

I can help you understand the source of communication breakdowns and attachment issues (anxiety, avoidance, etc) and build skills for better communication, mutual support, and conflict resolution through either individual therapy or couple's therapy.

  • Anxiety External link

DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), and Somatic Therapy are some of the approaches that can help address and reduce the distress caused by anxiety.

  • PTSD External link

My training involves Somatic therapy for recalibrating the nervous system and teaching the body how to feel safe again, as well as EMDR for reprocessing and releasing traumatic memories in manner that is slow, gentle and client-led.

  • Depression External link

Depression can come on suddenly or be a life-long struggle; IFS (Internal Family Systems), ACT and EMDR are just a few of the approaches I use that are proven to be effective at treating depression.
