My Ideal Client

It is through acceptance of what is that change can begin. Working towards unconditional self-acceptance and the gentle revision of your story nurtures growth and healthy, authentic expression. I work with individuals and couples through a variety of issues- transitions, anxiety, depression, relationships, conflict, loss, and parenting.

My Approach to Helping

I am trained through Naropa University as a counselor with a transpersonal orientation and specialization in mindfulness. Professionally, I have years of interpersonal relationships working with people of varying identities, in a role that required active listening, empathic communication, trust, and understanding. Educationally, I have training in gestalt therapy, Internal Family Systems, Humanistic Psychology, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, DBT, Mindfulness based therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Somatic Therapy, and Transpersonal Psychology.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

My lifelong curiosity about the human experience, sparked by my first psychology course, continues to fuel my passion for understanding both myself and others. Forever a curious soul and an avid reader, I am deeply drawn to the journey of personal growth and the richness of contemplative conversations. I believe that while our natural inclination is towards expansion, life experiences can make it feel unsafe to do so. By cultivating self-awareness and mindfulness, we can reconnect with our inner wisdom. Recognizing our fundamental need for connection, I believe that when we operate from a place of self-understanding, our relationships can thrive. My own life journey, including the profound and humbling experience of being a wife and mother to three wonderful children through various stages of parenting, has deepened my understanding of human resilience and the complexities of these relationships have been my greatest teachers.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Attachment Theory External link

Understanding Attachment Theory is a vital component of healthy relationships in our lives. Awareness of your own attachment styles can lead to profound growth in your interactions.

  • Gestalt External link

Gestalt therapy highlights the adaptations we have made throughout our lives to cope with our emotional environments. These adaptations are often outside of our consciousness. Bringing awareness to ways of being that no longer serve us can facilitate deep healing and insights.

  • Mindfulness-based External link

Mindfulness rests in our capacity to ground ourselves in present awareness. Anxiety emphasizes angst about the future and depression lies in concern with the past. It is only in the present moment that we have any agency. Cultivating mindfulness can nurture tremendous acceptance of what is and peace in our lives.

  • Somatic Therapy (Body Centered) External link

Somatic therapy is incredibly beneficial to healing trauma. Trauma is unprocessed emotion stored in the body. It is the thinking mind that creates our often inaccurate narrative of our lives and experiences, but it is the body that rests in truth. Through somatic or body awareness, we can make our way beyond the thinking mind and into our felt sense, accessing deep healing and fostering self-trust.

  • Transpersonal External link

The word "transpersonal" literally means "beyond the personal." Transpersonal psychology takes a step back to look at the whole or our sense of connection to something larger than ourselves – maybe nature, humanity, a sense of the sacred, or even just a feeling of awe and wonder, experiences that give life a deeper sense of meaning and purpose. They could be spiritual in nature, moments of profound insight, or times when we feel a strong sense of unity or interconnectedness.
