Your relationship with your partner can be the source of groundedness, stability, love and passion. It can also cause stress, resentment and pain. In couples counseling we build relationship skills, transform what blocks you from feeling closer and learn to stay connected through the rough times so that you can become better, more loving partners. I specialize in helping high-conflict couples shift out of painful patterns and into loving partnership.
I work with your whole self: mental, emotional, physical and spiritual. We collaborate to create health on all these levels, as well as integration among them. For some, spiritual health means a dedicated practice, for others, it can be as simple as noticing our human connection. I'll meet you where you are.
EMDR is a different approach than talk therapy for relieving the distress associated with traumatic memory. This is an extremely well-researched protocol that brings much relief. I am trained in EMDR (Level 1 & 2), working toward certification, and use EMDR effectively with clients.
Specialties
I have advanced training in couples therapy and specialize in helping couples stop fighting, break negative patterns and start partnering with more love, safety and trust. I'm passionate about helping couples express their individual voices while nurturing the relationship. I use attachment-orientated techniques from EFT to bring down the reactivity between you and start communicating better, giving you tools and teaching you expert skills along the way to a new, true partnership.
My focus is to help parents and caregivers do so from a grounded place of love and connection. Many parents come to me when they are at very low points, feeling ashamed and angry, bogged down by the day-to-day grind of endless parenting tasks - you don't have to go it alone! You can find links to my parenting articles at http://www.psychedinsanfrancisco.com/author/jennykepler/
I work with the effects of trauma using several different modalities, including Hakomi, EMDR and sensorimotor psychotherapy. We'll find the right combination that suits you, to relieve the symptoms that are bringing you here.
We'll work together to find your strengths and coping skills and then use a combination of mindfulness-based practices and cognitive therapy to reduce anxiety.
I am passionate about this phase in life, and am committed to helping moms through this rocky time. I have been working with women around childbirth for almost 20 years and have advanced training in postpartum and parent/infant psychology.
Parenting
This is a group for therapists (pre-licensed ok) who are also mothers to explore the intersections of clinical work, attachment and mothering, and who see this work as a spiritual path. We will use inquiry, mindfulness and writing as entry-points into rich discussion and deep support. Both silly and serious, this group taps right into the river of heartache and connection that flows beneath this work we do. Holding the Therapist Mother promises to become a source for grounding, authenticity and development in this wild terrain we navigate everyday.
