My Ideal Client

Those I work with in therapy are those who are wanting to achieve freedom from compulsions, self-destruction and limiting beliefs. I help individuals heal, find self-acceptance, and develop healthy coping skills to manage life’s stressful situations in a healthier way. In therapy, we will develop or reinforce your protective supports designed to replace challenging behaviors with functional, positive behavior. My practice makes engaging and connecting with reliable, effective care simple.

My Approach to Helping

For the past 6 years, I have supported and helped individuals work through difficulties and struggles related to historical and/or current experiences of traumatic events, those coping with the difficulties of navigating life’s challenges while being afflicted by psychosis, mania, depression, anxiety, health related concerns, and substance abuse. During this time I have integrated a holistic approach to not only look at the symptoms or signs that are signaling that something is unwell, but also taking a look at the other dimensions of one’s wellness such as: social, occupational, environmental, physical, intellectual, spiritual, and emotional. This wellness approach in healthcare emphasizes good physical and mental health, preventing illness, and prolonging life. In therapy we will develop or reinforce your protective supports designed to replace challenging behaviors with functional, positive behavior. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming and strive to provide a safe and equitable space for all.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (OR License #C5359) registered with the O.B.L.P.C.T. I hold an MA in Applied Psychological Science from Pacific University. I worked as substance use disorder counselor with Cascadia Behavioral Healthcare. Up until recently I held employment as a dual diagnosis clinical supervisor with Columbia Community Mental Health. From my last two work placements I met the requirements to obtain my Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor II (Certification #19-09-24) registered with M.H.A.C.B.O. Finally, I have Board Certified-TeleMental Health Provider credential which identifies those professionals who are uniquely trained in best practices for delivering traditional behavioral healthcare through technological means. BC-TMH credential holders have met nationally established telemental health criteria.

Techniques I Use

  • Holistic External link

My educational focus on health psychology and the incorporation of my wellness approach has given me both the ability and resources to effectively work from a 'dimensional' approach in identifying the factors affecting the presenting issue.

  • Psychodynamic  External link

Because both the Holistic, Cognitive Behavioral, and integrated approach system I utilize-exploring how certain thoughts, behaviors, or emotions develop over a lifespan is a primary function in making lasting change.

  • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) External link

I have educational and practical experience in providing CBT interventions for both individual and group settings for both residential and outpatient treatment.

Issues I Treat

  • Men's Issues External link

Suicide for males is on the rise significantly in the United States. This has been related to the struggle of males being able to reach out for help and support due to barriers related to social stigma or previously held notions about the counseling process. I work to normalize and validate male struggles and toxic male messages through all aspects of treatment.

  • Drug Dependence / Abuse / Addiction External link

Mental health and addiction due to typically occur as distinct issues, and my practice works to ensure that we are examining and incorporating the relationship between mental health and substance use is it relates to the presenting issue.

  • Schizophrenia External link

I have significant experience in working with individuals with psychosis diagnoses in both a residential and outpatient setting.

  • Self-Esteem External link

Due to the interrelationship between mental health, substance use, and self-esteem-this is a primary objective of my practice to work on improving along with finding stability/control of internal processes.

  • Bipolar External link

I have extensive work in treating individuals who have recently been diagnosed with this disorder in understanding what the symptoms are, and how to best manage them in tandem with medications and therapy.
