My Ideal Client

My clients are often searching for ways to connect to their own Self and body, as well as others around them. This connection may have been ruptured by anxiety/depression, illness or disability, a loss, trauma, and/or oppression in its various forms. I often work with folks who are navigating changes and transitions, or with those who live on the borders of multiple marginalized identities.

My Approach to Helping

I believe our work together is collaborative, and that you are the expert of your own experience. I view your coping mechanisms as wise strategies that your body has relied on over the course of your life. Together, we can examine these strategies, explore if there’s anything that might work differently/better, and introduce more choice into your internal landscape. I often rely on somatic practices, and look to your body as a powerful messenger. Even if your connection to your body feels severed or damaged, we will work to repair that line of connection at your own pace. I also draw guidance from Internal Family Systems, which views our inner system as a collection of parts that protect our core Self. I am firmly grounded in a decolonized approach to therapy, and will often address the external and oppressive systems that impact your well-being.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I am a Brown, biracial, queer, woman living with chronic illness and disability. I grew up in both the US and in Asia. I experience the world in a marginalized body, while also holding many privileges (cis-gender, formally educated, US citizenship, midsized.) I do not believe in the “blank slate” therapist, and will always welcome conversations about how our identities (whether they overlap or differ) impact our work together. I have my own personal relationship with various forms of trauma, and have intimate awareness of the messy work it takes to experience our own path of recovery. I deeply believe in harm reduction and mutual aid. I am particularly interested in our relationships with our own bodies, and the way in which these relationships are affected by chronic illness, anti-fat bias, white supremacy, and capitalism. I recognize I am still learning and growing—and always will be—and I am committed to further grounding myself in anti-oppressive practices.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Chronic Pain or Illness External link

I've spent over a decade experiencing mysterious symptoms, experimenting with various treatments, and navigating our medical systems. I deeply know the frustration, fear, and complex grief of chronic pain and illness. While there is no way to fully understand each person's unique experience with illness and disability, my personal experience informs the way in which I hope to support others through their own acceptance and finding their own agency in the face of various health challenges.

  • Body Image Issues External link

I am a certified Body Trust® Provider through the Center for Body Trust. My approach to body image concerns begins with examining and grieving all the messaging we have received about how our bodies should be and how they should look. With deep compassion, I work to create a space in which you can move at your own pace, reconnect with the deep wisdom of your body, and restore the feeling of being at home in your body.

  • Racial Identity External link

As a mixed race woman, I am very familiar with feeling like an outsider. I moved around a lot growing up-I always desired to blend into my surroundings, but was never quite able to. Our relationship with our own racial identity is a complex one, deeply impacted by the micro- and macro-communities we live in. Our work together will be rooted in curiosity and compassion, allowing space to explore what your racial identity means to you, and leave behind narratives that don't serve you anymore.
