My Ideal Client

I work with adolescents, individual adults, and parents. I enjoy helping folks find new approaches for working with stress, anxiety, depression, adjustments to life transitions, and family-oriented relationship challenges. I often work with parents, helping them learn how to adjust their parenting approach to better meet the developmental needs of their adolescent/young adult. As a former athlete and coach, I love helping clients who are wanting to work on performance-related issues.

My Background

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists. I hold a Master's Degree in Couples and Family Therapy from the University of Oregon. During my Master's program, I worked as a therapist at PeaceHealth Counseling, providing therapy to children, adolescents, and families at an outpatient pediatric clinic. I also provided individual, couples, and family therapy at the University of Oregon's Center for Family Therapy. My previous professional experience includes coaching high school and college baseball, working in college admissions, and working as an academic support specialist for student-athletes at the University of Oregon. Prior attending graduate school, I had a brief career as a freelance journalist. As an undergraduate student, I majored in English literature, and was the captain of my college baseball team.

My Approach to Helping

Deciding to see a therapist can be an intimidating process, and can be filled with all sorts of questions. My goal is to make therapy feel accessible and welcoming. My strengths-based approach draws on your strengths, resources, past successes, and hopes for the future. I believe the strength of the relationship between therapist and client is the single most important aspect of therapy. Consequently, my approach is founded on developing a strong working relationship with you. My therapeutic approach utilizes models of family systems therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Child or Adolescent Issues External link

The adolescent years are filled with immense physical, emotional, and cognitive change. While this developmental period is undoubtedly exciting, it can also present adolescents and families with newfound challenges. My previous experiences—as a therapist, coach, and teacher—have given me exposure to the unique challenges of adolescence.

  • Anxiety External link

Anxiety is a normal human reaction to stress, but it can become problematic when it gets in the way of our goals, ambitions, and day-to-day needs. I use a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness practice to identify negative thoughts/judgments of our anxiety experience, and to regain control of how our body reacts to anxiety.
