My Approach to Helping

Above all else, I believe in the healing power of relationship. During therapy, we co-create a space that provides you with the safety to explore your feelings, challenge old assumptions and stories, and do the brave work of transformation. My work involves us noticing and responding together to whatever unfolds, and using the therapeutic relationship to unearth compassion and create change. I believe we all have the innate capacity to do this, but sometimes we need a little boost from an ally to remember what we're capable of. Come as you are. Expect both laughter and tears.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I'm a marriage and family therapist with a strong training background in family systems -- thinking about ourselves in relationship to others, rather than as isolated individuals. I am trained in Art Therapy. I have extensive experience treating trauma survivors, LGBTQ folks, non-traditional and blended families, and teens. My work tends to be emotionally-focused with a strong emphasis on relationship. My master's degree is from Antioch University Seattle and I hold a bachelor's degree from Harvard University in Visual Art.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Relational  External link

It is a fundamental belief of mine that we are both hurt and healed in relationship to others. My approach fosters safety, predictability, and trust within the therapy relationship to offer you corrective experiences of yourself in relation to others. Together we will collaborate to explore and dismantle unhealthy beliefs you may have developed about yourself and your capacity to love.

  • Emotionally Focused External link

What feelings underlie your behaviors and your ways of relating to others? This approach helps you identify your core emotional needs and learn ways to express those to others. EFT works wonderfully with individuals, couples, and families alike to deepen connection and fine-tune communication skills. I excel at helping folks uncover the feelings that are often difficult to name.

  • Art Therapy External link

Sometimes, words don't suffice. Or we tell ourselves the same stories over and over again, not allowing us to get unstuck from these old narratives. The power of image and of creative expression to get at the heart of a feeling or a problem is immense. If you think visually or are curious about new ways of approaching old problems, art therapy may be very effective for you.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Sexual Abuse External link

Being a survivor is immensely complicated. I have extensive experience working with sexual abuse survivors and their families, and will witness and support your healing work with care and compassion. I use a family systems perspective to work in a relationship-based manner to address the complexities of abuse in individuals and families.

  • Family Conflict External link

Families are messy, glorious business, and every single one is different. Coming from a strong systemic perspective, I hold space for multiple perspectives, and will assist your family in identifying and meeting common goals, working through crisis and conflict, and finding reconnection and new intimacy. We will work to improve communication and closeness in a really compassionate, hands-on way.

  • LGBTQ Issues External link

You are the expert on your own identity. I provide identity-affirming therapy to support your process and struggles with being yourself in this world.

  • PTSD External link

Trauma re-wires our brains and can make it difficult to feel safe or in control of our own emotions and actions. Working from a trauma-informed perspective, I will help you re-experience safety and control in your own life.

  • Anxiety External link

Anxiety is our brain's way of trying to 'do something' to change a hard situation, but it often results in us simply treading water (or barely even staying afloat), and it can be debilitating. Together we will brave the waters and calm that impulse to help you actually be able to find your center and go with the flow.
