My Ideal Client

My clients are adolescents and young adults who experience with negative self talk, low self esteem, or uncertainty about their futures. Whether its physical changes, developing an illness, or managing a disability, young people can feel isolated or alone. My clients want a reliable and compassionate space to learn new coping techniques for managing the more complicated emotions that come with age.

My Approach to Helping

It's not a lack of will, it's a lack of skill. Today's adolescents and young adults are experiencing the impacts of their childhood in dramatically new and unique ways. One day we may address deep relational wounds, the next, we will use humor and pop culture to understand how values impact our decisions. Building emotional resilience can be connective for your relationship with yourself and your relationships. Individual, group, or family counseling can a powerful place to build new perspectives skills to move through changing environments.

Why I Became a Therapist

After developing chronic health conditions at age 14, I became professionally interested in the mind-body relationship and the medical field. Looking back at my undergraduate classes, and the papers I wrote about pain management, I see a young woman adapting to her uncertainty in real time. My experiences of medical bias flamed my passion for social justice, and the intersectional injustices that happen in this field. As a therapist, I take young people and their concerns seriously. I feel passionate about collaborating with your health care team to fill whatever systemic gaps we can.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy External link

I completed a 60 hour continuing education course on using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and ERP for anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder.

  • Family Therapy External link

I've completed multiple continuing education courses through Emotionally Focused Family Therapy under Adele LaFrance.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Child or Adolescent Issues External link

Working with teens is the honor of my career. I completed my Clinical Internship hours at Beaverton High School during the first full year "in-person" after the pandemic. My perspective compliments the vastly different ways that adolescents are developing now compared to past generations. I'm also chronically "online", which helps my clients explain their context using their own language and still taken seriously.

  • Chronic Pain or Illness External link

You may want need support with: coping with pain, social isolation and guilt, exploring your values to medications, processing negative medical experiences and bias, practicing self advocacy skills, or relearning your body after professional burn out. Understanding how illness and mental health interact passion, and something truly unique for every one of my clients.

  • Family Conflict External link

The bond between parent and child is one of the most insulating factors for child mental wellness. As a family therapist I have been trained in Emotionally Focused Family Therapy for adolescent eating disorders, substance use, and other behavioral manifestations of coping. When family is in conflict, its time to lean inward, increase vulnerability, and learn how to support each other in new more effective ways.

  • Self-Esteem External link
