My Approach to Helping

I provide a collaborative and holistic mind-body approach to psychotherapy. I believe that every individual has an innate capacity to heal and deepen their connection to self/others. I offer practical tools to help you achieve a greater sense of growth and well-being and find relief from the unhealthy patterns that keep you stuck. It is my goal to create a safe and compassionate environment in which your unique strengths and resources can be accessed, and the negative experiences from the past that continue to affect the present can be uncovered and resolved. I specialize in working with adolescents and adults who experience relationship issues, depression, anxiety, trauma, substance abuse, and eating disorders. Within these modalities, I integrate psychodynamic, mindfulness, behavioral approaches to provide the most comprehensive and holistic care. It is my joy and honor to accompany you during this part of your journey of self-discovery and transformation.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I hold a master's degree in counseling psychology from Lewis & Clark College with an emphasis in Eating Disorders and Addiction. My training includes clinical experience in both partial hospitalization and outpatient levels of care with children, adolescents, and adults. I offer four years of experience in a partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient level of care as the Primary Therapist at the Eating Disorder Center of Portland and Program Director at Center for Discovery Portland Outpatient, which allowed me to work with an array of eating disorder symptoms and co-occurring conditions. I specialize in working with adolescents and adults who experience relationship issues, depression, anxiety, trauma, substance abuse, and eating disorders. NOT ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS AT THIS TIME

Techniques I Use

  • Attachment Theory External link

I strongly believe that our attachment experiences, from birth through adulthood, shape the way that we relate to ourselves and others. I will help you understand this lens through which you see the world, and open up possibilities for growth and healing, which ultimately leads to a more authentic and meaningful connections.

  • EMDR External link

EMDR is an integrative approach that helps facilitate a natural healing process in all individuals. EMDR has been extensively researched and proven to be effective in relieving all types of difficulties. The goal of EMDR is to leave you with the emotions, understanding, and perspectives that will lead to healthy/useful behaviors and interactions. EMDR can offer healing and empowerment.

  • Psychodynamic  External link

At the core, I believe that the past influences the present, and it is important to examine some of the deep roots that may be causing you issues as you move towards healing and growth. Counseling can provide you an opportunity to recognize and resolve these blocks and develop effective tools for working through them.

Issues I Treat

  • Drug Dependence / Abuse / Addiction External link

If you are struggling with addiction, whether it be alcohol, prescription medication, sex, food, gambling, street drugs, or any other mood-altering experience, recovery is possible. Through therapy, I will support you in gaining insight into the function the addiction has served in your life, learn effective coping skills, and develop an increased sense of options and potential.

  • Child or Adolescent Issues External link

I have extensive experience and training in issues around child and adolescent mental health issues, including eating disorders, body image issues, and substance abuse. Through therapy, I support children and young adults in expressing and exploring their lived experience and understanding of things, resolving emotional blocks, and ultimately, heal and grow.

  • Eating Disorder External link

Eating disorders are complex as they directly impact our physical and emotional well-being. I believe that full recovery is possible and I am passionate about helping individuals regain balance and hope in all areas of their life. Through therapy, we can work towards understanding the function that the eating disorder has in your life and explore the emotions and patterns that contribute to it.

  • Anxiety External link

If you are struggling with feelings of anxiety, panic attacks, or stress that feels unmanageable, counseling can provide an opportunity to not only learn new ways of coping and managing the anxiety and stress, but also offers you a space to gain insight into patterns that are keeping you stuck, and ultimately, bring healing and wholeness to yourself.

  • Depression External link

Depression can be an isolating and hopeless experience, but there is hope. Through therapy, I can support you in gaining insight into the root causes of your depression, develop coping skills, and find healing and wholeness on the other side.
