My Ideal Client

I work with adult individuals and couples of all backgrounds. My clients are typically struggling with change, relationships, making difficult choices, healing from trauma, and finding meaning or purpose. Themes often involve freedom/constraint, responsibility, boundary, authenticity, meaning/meaninglessness, safety/risk, belonging/isolation, identity, power/powerlessness, and mortality. Ideal clients are highly motivated to engage in the therapy and are open to change

My Approach to Helping

I use an existential approach to my work which goes beyond simply alleviating symptoms. My job is to help you find freedom within life's constraints and discover agency where it feels like there are no choices. I want to know who you are by understanding your life experiences and how they have shaped who you are so that we can find authentic meaning, purpose, and connection. I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. I have completed Hatha Yoga teacher training and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction which I use to incorporate experiential mind-body practices in session. For couples, I use Gottman method to: disarm conflicting verbal communication; increase intimacy, respect, and affection; create a heightened sense of empathy and understanding within the context of the relationship; and develop and strengthen a sense of shared meaning and life vision. It is a combination of skill building and existential therapy.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe healing and change, and authenticity come through the integration of psychological, emotional, spiritual, social, professional, cultural, biological, moral and ethical aspects of life. My counseling perspective is rooted in existential and humanistic philosophies, and deeply influenced by Buddhist and Yogic teachings. I am a lifelong learner and, in the same way I have approached my own life, I approach clients' lives with openness, curiosity and compassion. In my free time I I love spending time in nature through trail running and hiking, canoeing lakes and rivers, cycling, and mountaineering.
