My Approach to Helping

Therapy is a unique process that succeeds on the power of the relationship between the therapist and clients. Whether you are seeking individual counseling, couples or family therapy, my goal, and the goal of all of the therapists at WellPath Counseling, is to build a partnership in which you feel safe and supported enough to make sense of challenging events or issues. Utilizing an interdisciplinary approach that is rooted in attachment and emotionally-focused modalities, I seek to create an authentic relationship that supports dialogue and discovery where you feel you are an active participant in your own growth and the growth of your relationships.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I have a Master’s degree in Counseling with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy from Portland State University. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with the state of Oregon, a Nationally Certified Counselor, and recognized as a Qualified Mental Health Professional. My bachelor’s degree is in Sociology from Willamette University. I have specialized trainings in emotionally-focused therapy, strategic, structural and multidimensional family therapies, mindfulness practices and motivational interviewing. My clinical experience includes working as a school-based child and family therapist in the Beaverton school district, a counselor in Washington County Victim’s Services and a counselor for women and children affected by domestic violence.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Couples Counseling External link

I use a treatment approach grounded in emotionally-focused couples work. I work to help you identify what you both really want from your relationship and how you can find comfort and acceptance in asking for what you really need from your partner. Even if there is frequently anger or mistrust in your relationship, we will work to decrease the emotional pain and increase understanding.

  • Emotionally Focused External link

I have done extensive training in emotionally-focused therapy for both individuals and couples. I believe EFT work gets to the heart of people's pain by examining how maladaptive emotions get in the way of our health and happiness. EFT allows us to work on shifting less helpful feelings and responses to allow room for more adaptive emotions.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Relationship / Marriage Issues External link

When working with couples, I focus on the relational elements between partners. This is often where the most conflict exists and where people feel the most hurt and confusion. I help partners find comfort and acceptance in asking for what they really need from each other. Even if there is frequently anger or mistrust I work to decrease the emotional pain and increase understanding.

  • Family Conflict External link

Let's face it, family relationships are often challenging! I work with families dealing with a wide range of issues from relational conflict to more severe behaviors that may be impacting family members and the the health of family dynamics.
