My Ideal Client

My clients tend to hold high standards, and struggle to get out from under them. They often suffer from anxiety, OCD and/or BFRB behaviors. They may even be ambivalent about adjusting their standards because they are seen as essential to their success, and are confused about life without them. My clients are used to prizing accuracy, productivity, rationality, excellence, and consistency, but often at the expense of spontaneity, intuition, fulfillment, self-expression, and flexibility.

My Approach to Helping

I have worked throughout my career with anxiety, depression, and chemical / behavioral addictions. I researched binge eating and body-focused, repetitive behaviors (BFRBs) such as compulsive hair pulling and skin picking for my doctoral dissertation, and continued jobs in the field of impulse control and OCD behaviors thereafter. In my community work, I commonly treated individuals with substance use disorders; eating and body image disorders; gambling, porn, and shoplifting addictions; codependence and people-pleasing; perfectionism, formal OCD and OCD-related conditions, and general anxiety and depression. My private practice has a special focus on anxiety, OCD, and BFRBs (@bfrbtherapist on Instagram) currently, supporting teens, adults, couples, and families affected by these behaviors. Lastly, I run groups, consult, and teach, drawing from psychodynamic, ACT, ERP, CBT, DBT, IFS, and somatic approaches.

My Values as a Therapist

I make my role about liberating people, and incorporate liberatory values (e.g. abolition, body positivity, restorative justice, anticolonialism, racial equity) into my psychotherapy work. I believe in whole-person healing. I don't want to teach people to simply block behaviors while all of their underlying pain, anxiety, or frustration persists unaddressed. I want people's stuck patterns to lift organically - because they are happier, lighter, and don't need them anymore. I am passionate about unpacking the complexities in situations, such as the social and cultural underpinnings that make your mental health about more than your individual commitments. Together, we can create a healing journey through values, early origins, healthy dependence, intrinsic worth, self-determination, intuitive listening, and radical repair.
