My Ideal Client

The clients I work with are motivated to work toward their goals and are willing to go to hard places to do so. I work with ages 14 and up - my practice includes individuals, couples and families. My clients often present struggling with anxiety, panic, or depression, and are influenced by or concerned with fitting the mold that society asks them to fit. Others are impacted by past trauma. I help my clients break free of the molds, find authenticity, and discover passion and purpose in life.

My Approach to Helping

I am an Emotion-Focused therapist, which means I believe that emotions are a powerful piece of the puzzle of our internal landscape. To complete the puzzle, I also draw on Attachment Theory, Intergenerational Family Therapy, IFS, DBT, CBT, Mindfulness, Spirituality and earth/nature-based healing. I believe that our pasts, our surroundings, and our relationships heavily influence our current experience. Understanding these influences can be powerful, liberating, challenging, and even scary. I'm here to remind you, you're worth it. I bring my full and authentic self to therapy and I believe that a positive, trusting, open and safe therapeutic relationship (our relationship) is essential to successful outcomes in therapy. My first goal will always be to connect with you authentically and create safety in our relationship. Safety is not an objective state, and my job is to ensure the environment we create together feels safe to you. This allows us to explore and dive deep.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe in the interconnection of life. As humans we form our world view based on our experiences, stories, and relationships. Let's be real... The world can feel like a really difficult and scary place to live right now, especially for those who have marginalized identities. I stand firm in my values of anti-racism, LGBTQ affirmation, body positivity and beauty at any size, anti-hate, anti-ableism, and valuing/affirming neurodiversity. I strive to confront and dismantle systems and societal narratives that make and keep humanity sick and keep my clients stuck. I've spent significant time working with individuals, couples, and families to help them break through barriers and step out of boxes and cycles that make them feel trapped and hopeless. I have done this both as a therapist and in community-based non-profits where I provided support and mentorship. I am committed to community engagement and consider community and connection to be essential to human wellness.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Emotionally Focused External link

I believe that emotions make up a powerful part of our inner world and landscapes and I think it's important to value, honor and respect each person's emotional experience. By exploring, getting in touch with, and processing emotions I can help you learn more about yourself, find authenticity in relationships, set boundaries, and develop more self-compassion and resilience.

  • Attachment Theory External link

Attachment theory has recently become more mainstream and a lot of folx are interested in how it applies to them or their partnership. I can help you explore your attachment style and how it manifests in your relationships both with others and yourself. I can also help you explore the roots of your attachment style in order to better understand how you got here. Learning about and naming attachment styles and wounds can be powerful and help foster secure attachment going forward.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) External link

I'm currently working on becoming fully certified as a DBT therapist, but in the meantime I tend to use a lot of DBT skills and tools in my practice. I've had success in implementing DBT to help folx with emotion regulation, developing self compassion, improving relationships and navigating conflict. DBT can be a valuable framework whether it's used in a structured curriculum format or intermixed with other modalities in a more fluid way.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) External link

I am also working on official certifications for Internal Family Systems therapy. Like DBT, IFS can be a very powerful framework and can help folx process deep trauma, get to know themselves better, develop more self compassion and work through challenges including (but not limited to) anxiety, depression, anger/rage, panic, PTSD, trauma and much more.

  • EcoTherapy External link

I believe that part of the reason that we (humans) encounter challenges such as mood disorders and difficulties in relationships is because we have largely lost our connection to the most important life force - Mother Earth. I can help you foster a connection with the natural world that will aid in your healing journey as well as develop a fortified connection with your authentic self. Whether you're a "nature person" or not, EcoTherapy principles can be a helpful tool for wellness.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Anxiety External link

I have significant experience helping folx manage anxiety and panic. My clients have had success in using several modalities to help manage anxiety in the moment and lessen the intensity and frequency of anxiety and panic. Additionally I've helped my clients explore and investigate the roots of anxiety and panic to address the cause and begin to heal those wounds.

  • Depression External link

I have extensive experience working with depression both in individuals and managing depression in family systems, couples, and parent/child relationships. I've helped folx develop self compassion, gently investigate the wounds that may have contributed to depression and implement strategies and interventions to manage intense feelings and move through difficult periods of time. Depression can feel debilitating and hopeless. I can help you increase hope and develop more resilience.

  • Child or Adolescent Issues External link

For over a decade I've worked with youth, teens and young adults to help them manage everything normal growing-pains to intense family conflict, trauma, Panic Disorder, PTSD, anxiety, depression and more. I've also helped families more successfully communicate and understand each other - learn speak each other's language.

  • Family Conflict External link

Feeling like you're just not connecting with your family? Are there past issues that have been overlooked or pushed aside? I can help bridge those gaps and process past conflict/trauma that contributes distance and misconnection. Family conflict can be challenging for all parties. I can help you examine and shift cycles, patterns and communication styles that don't serve your family, and create closer and more trusting relationships.

  • ADHD External link

I have experience working with individuals, couples and families experiencing challenges around ADHD. I've worked teens and young people who were diagnosed at a young age as well as adults who are newly diagnosed. ADHD can present challenges in many aspects of life, not just in academic or work settings. I can help bridge gaps in understanding, develop strategies to support executive functioning, and help folx communicate and support each other through these challenges.
