My Ideal Client

I welcome individuals, couples, and families dealing with relationship conflicts, parenting, behavioral challenges, depression, anxiety, developing sexual health, life stress & balance, or personal identity. I was a teacher for many years and welcome children ages 3 and up for play therapy to help them communicate their inner experiences as they learn new skills and practice new ways of coping. I recognize the impact of trauma (big and small) and provide EMDR as a treatment option for all ages.

My Approach to Helping

The most important aspect of counseling is for you to experience a therapeutic environment that is warm, accepting, empathetic, encouraging, and patient. In that environment, you are empowered to know your inherent value and worth, and find ways to access the inner wisdom to guide you toward your goals. I believe people are relational beings with physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. Increasing awareness of and integrating these needs can lead to a richer, more meaningful life. While I believe psychological insight is important, it is also essential to be action oriented. I help clients acquire new tools and experiment with new behaviors and ways of thinking to create the desired changes in their lives and relationships. I have additional training to work with children & teens (play therapy, sandtray, & expressive arts) couples (Gottman, Emotionally Focused, & RelateStrong) & trauma (EMDR with infants, children, adolescents & adults).

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

My favorite things are spending time with my husband, our four children and their partners, and snuggling our 2 grandkiddos. In my free time I love all sorts of books, quilting, knitting, and gardening.
