My Approach to Helping

As a mental health therapist, and clinic director, I work from a client centered, integrative approach. I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Dialectic behavioral therapy (DBT), and solution focused therapy. I also believe that we need to work together, as a team, to help you achieve your goals. The body and mind are greatly connected and intertwined, which is why I believe in a holistic approach to mental health care. I am happy and honored to provide you with a non-judgmental, safe space for you to tell your story, set your goals, and become the person you were meant to be. I have a very warm approach and want, above anything else, to meet you where you are at so we can work together towards your goals!

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I have been in the mental health field for the past 12 years and have done much of my work in non-profit, community mental health and medical field, which I believe has been incredibly important in being able to work with all kinds of clients. I am an advocate and ally for the LBGTQ+ community and providing inclusive therapy is very important to me. I also identify as a feminist. I have dealt with anxiety and panic myself, since the age of 14, and this actually led me to this field, wanting to help others who went through the same kind of struggles that I did. I have found with the right balance of counseling, self-care, and improvement of self-esteem, you really can have the kind of life you have always wanted. I would love to help you reach your goals!

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Mindfulness-based External link

I utilize mindfulness for many of my clients who experience anxiety in different forms. This may look like deep breathing, meditation, progressive muscle relaxation, and learning to be in the present (often a combination of all of these!)

  • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) External link

CBT provides excellent tools to deal with anxiety, depression, OCD, and other road blocks. In a short period of time I can teach you relaxation techniques, mindfulness exercises, and how to refute negative thoughts that clutter your mind so that you can focus on what you truly are passionate about!

  • Couples Counseling External link

I work with couples using primarily the Emotion Focused model of couples work. I love watching couples learn to communicate and grow towards each other! If you are wanting to strengthen your relationship, improve your communication, and learn to express your feelings in a healthy way, couples counseling might be right for you. I am an inclusive therapist and work with all couple dynamics, including the LBGTQ+ community and folks in the poly and kink communities.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Anxiety External link

I have extensive experience with anxiety disorders, chronic worry, and panic attacks. As someone who had her first panic attack at age 14, I can not only empathize with people who struggle with anxiety, but have learned many amazing tips and tricks along the way in my own journey towards health!

  • Relationship / Marriage Issues External link

I have worked with many couples of all orientations to learn now to communicate and build a better life together. Here are some topics I work with most often: Navigating the path to intimacy Effectively sharing and communicating emotions Creating romance between best friends Juggling career, children, and intimacy Being vulnerable Building and repairing the safety of trust

  • Family Conflict External link

Family conflict is incredibly stressful and hard to understand when you are wrapped up in it. Counseling can help tremendously with clarity and learning to set healthy boundaries with family members so that you can be the best version of yourself in a family unit. I work with many different types of families, but specialize in self-care for family members that deal with estrangement or boundaries.

  • Chronic Pain or Illness External link

Navigating chronic illness along with mental health symptoms can be difficult, but you don't have to go it alone. I can help you utilize tools to successfully manage these conditions and have the best quality of life for you and for your family.

  • Coronavirus/COVID-19 External link

The world is nuts right now. We could all use some extra support.
