I believe we all have the inner resources to heal ourselves, and that sometimes we need help accessing those resources; I guide you in the discovery and application of those resources. Approaching therapy from a deeply compassionate, genuine, and sometimes humorous angle, I offer a client-centered approach. We talk about your goals, identify the obstacles getting in the way of your success, and develop tailored-to-you skills to help you through these barriers. When feels right to both of us, we assess progress made and discuss maintenance of changes so that you may sustain your progress without therapy. I approach each individual utilizing techniques from evidence based cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction. Along the way, clients often find more peace, self-acceptance, understanding and life direction. Together, we work toward increasing your satisfaction with yourself and life. I find deep meaning in helping others, and am honored to do this work.

I have a background in multiple therapies such as cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, existentialism, humanistic, dialectical behavioral therapy, ecotherapy, and collaborative problem solving. I have a Masters in Counseling, over six years in private practice, and 11 years of experience in a variety of mental health settings. Though I don't accept insurance, I'm able to provide you with all necessary information for you to do so yourself if paying out of pocket is not an option. I offer telemental health and phone sessions to help reduce travel time, traffic frustrations, cost of gas, as well as to serve those in rural areas and those who find it difficult to leave the house - please inquire if desired!

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Mindfulness-based External link

Much of my approach stems from mindfulness - slowing down, connecting with the present, and noticing your thoughts and feelings without judgement. The first step in the process of change is awareness, and mindfulness is an incredibly useful tool in this. I've taken an 8-week training course on Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction, and have seen much change in clients when using this approach.

  • Humanistic  External link

I am a very open, genuine, and honest person, professionally and personally. I believe that you are the expert on yourself, and that we all need a little clarity at times. I will help you put together the pieces of the puzzle that is you, to lead to a strong sense of self, of confidence, and of trust within yourself.

  • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) External link

My graduate education was largely based in CBT. I find it a useful tool in getting started, before digging deeper. Many clients have discovered irrational beliefs that have, til now, shaped their world view. Examining these can be a huge step towards change.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Anxiety External link

Many of us experience anxiety to a disruptive level at some point in our lives. And, you can control it. I provide skills and tools on how to cope and reduce anxiety. Through my education, experience, and passion, many clients have found relief and gained a greater sense of self control.

  • Self-Esteem External link

Self-esteem and confidence affects so many aspects of our lives, from our self image, to work, to relationships, to child rearing, etc. Many of us speak much worse to ourselves than we would tolerate from others, or do unto others. If you would like to be free from this self-torment, and feel more confidence and connected with your true self, I would love to help guide you in this.

  • Child or Adolescent Issues External link

Some issues that we struggle with as adults begin in childhood, and many of us wish we would have learned strategies much earlier in life. Because of this, those aged 14+ is an area of passion for me. I have experience working with adolescents in my practice, as well as at an at-risk high school, and teen pregnancy shelter.

  • Depression External link

Depression can be debilitating and draining, and it can also be alleviated. I have experience treating depression, with results. Because of my education and training, I can offer support and guide change towards peace within yourself.

  • Political Climate External link

Politics and climate degradation are two areas that are interlinked and anxiety-inducing. I am well studied on climate chaos and anxiety, and can help you process these hopeless and overwhelming thoughts and feelings.
