My Approach to Helping

My intention is to connect with you as a unique being, and to offer support and curiosity to the life experiences and challenges that bring you into therapy. Our work together may include the use of traditional talk therapy, interpersonal connection, present-moment experience, mindfulness, experiential and body-oriented approaches, studying thoughts and impulses, exploring dreams, spirituality and existential experience. My hope is to lead clients towards a greater sense of self-awareness, that can lead to more choices in the way you respond to or engage with life experiences. In addition to counseling, my background in Nutrition and Massage Therapy provide me with knowledge and awareness of physical health challenges, body symptoms, and lifestyle concerns.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I graduated from Lewis and Clark college in Professional Mental Health and Addictions with a focus in Eating Disorders and Somatic Psychology, and I have a certification in the Treatment of Eating Disorders. I am Certified Hakomi therapist, with additional training Attachment, and Re-creation of the Self through the M.E.T.A. Counseling Center (Mindful Experiential Therapy Approaches). This work is rooted in mindfulness and body-oriented approaches, and I completed a year long internship with this as an educational focus and approach to counseling. I have also studied with the Process Work Institute, which is based in Jungian dreaming process, body symptoms, shamanistic and spiritual exploration, and experiential approaches.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Loss or Grief External link

The experience of loss and grief can arise in so many ways throughout our lives. Taking time to honor what has come and gone, whether it be a family member, a beloved pet, relationship, a job, all of these things deserve to be honored and given the space to be properly grieved. Grief can feel complex, because it also entails other emotions, like sadness, anger, resentment, confusion, and can be unique to each person. Grief also connects us to love, and can lead to new heart openings and growth.

  • Eating Disorder External link

Our relationship to food, nourishment, and our body is the longest one we will have. Struggling with body image and weight is so common, and there tends to be so many emotions in connection to this. I offer a holistic approach to working with Eating Disorders, including the mind-body connection, encouraging growth and change in kind and compassionate ways. I explore behaviors and impulses with curiosity, they may be messengers for needs and emotions trying to come through and express themselves.
