My Ideal Client

I enjoy getting to know clients human-to-human and understanding their unique histories and contexts. My most rewarding work is in helping people uproot problematic ways of coping that they've internalized from their families and society at large. We'll work well together if you're looking to change relationship patterns, free yourself from feelings of sadness and fear, and work through old traumas. I have experience with folks across spectrums of gender, sexuality, ethnicity, SES, age, & faith.

My Approach to Helping

I have a Masters degree in Couples and Family Counseling from Portland State University and experience working with children, teens, couples, families, and individuals in community mental health and private practice settings. My approach to counseling is trauma-informed and integrative, drawing on my knowledge of a variety of therapeutic models while being rooted in humanistic, psychodynamic, and emotionally-focused psychotherapies. I believe that we all naturally have many facets, or parts, of ourselves that help us navigate our complicated world. When these parts are balanced, we feel good and function well in relationships. Stress and trauma push our innate mechanisms for healing and coping into extremes. Many mental health symptoms can be viewed as counterproductive attempts at restoring our natural equilibrium. I will create a space in which we can safely explore the origins of your difficulties and help you find a new sense of balance in the present.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I work from a non-pathologizing and non-judgmental stance. I believe that all people have a core of good and wellness within them; even those who have it buried very deep down. When you view things from a systems perspective, concepts of fault and blame start to lose their meaning. I have yet to encounter a person whose feelings and actions didn't make sense after taking a holistic view of them. I will strive to understand and build your own awareness of who you are. I will be compassionate when challenging you to try something new. I will find and amplify the good in you, even when all you can feel is bad.
