My Approach to Helping

My framework centers on the belief that we are constantly being shaped by our environment and experiences, and we are co-cretors of reality. My work with transgender individuals has shown me that we need to feel there is room to expand/edit our stories in order to be able to grow and heal. Each person has a unique story. I use a variety of techniques and interventions to support the retelling of these stories using cultural sensitivity, attachment theory, parts work and trauma- informed care. I am specifically trained in working with family systems, which includes looking at relational dynamics and patterns that may be impacting growth and connection. My practice also incorporates psycho-educational trainings for families, clinicians, schools, businesses, and other community members wishing to know more about transgender identities.

Why I Became a Therapist

I received a BA in Psychology from the University California Santa Cruz. I then pursued a degree in Exotic Animal Training and Management through the EATM program at Moorpark College in 2009. My work with animal attachment and bonding influenced my perspective on human interactions and relationships and sparked my journey to becoming a marriage, couple, & family therapist. I received my Masters degree in Marriage, Couple, & Family Therapy from the Lewis & Clark College in 2015. Throughout my graduate studies I participated in workshops and trainings to educate mental health clinicians and students about LGBTQ concerns. My past work at TransActive Gender Center included counseling transgender youth and their families in both personalized counseling and group counseling settings.
